Presidential Administration denies reports that special account to accumulate referendum donations does not existMinsk, 3 October. The Main Office of Public and Political Information at the Presidential Administration has denied reports that no special account was opened by the Ministry of Finance to accumulate public donations for the president-proposed referendum. The Office refers to a letter received from the National Bank on September 25. The letter reportedly read that on September 13, 1996, when the Ministry of Finance informed the National Bank of opening a special account for voluntary donations to finance the forthcoming national referendum, the National Bank sent messages in this regard to all its departments and commercial banks in the country. This information was sent again to the banks on September 23. The National Bank also asked to inform it of banks' refusals to accept orders for transfer of money to the Referendum '96 account. |
